Misbah ul Haq Khan Niazi, a renowned Pakistani middle-order batsman, has been appointed as the head coach and chief selector of Pakistan Cricket Board. The expectation for many as Misbah to be the part of the HBL PSL draft has gone wrong. His cricketing career has finally come to an end.

Misbah ul Haq born on 28 May 1974 in a district Mianwali, Punjab. Beside his Test and One Day debut in 2001 and 2002 respectively he was ignored by the selection committee for many years. After his T20 debut, he was picked up in World T20 2007, from there he emerged as an impact player for Pakistan cricket. His famous orthodox short to a part-timer Joginder Sharma in WT20 final, act as a turning point in his cricketing career. Soon, he was declared as the vice-captain of Pakistan T20 under the captaincy of Younis Khan. Later, Shahid Afridi surpassed him as a captain by winning the WT20 in 2009 at Lords, the home of cricket.

Early in his career, he was well known for the power shorts and aggressive nature later, he became more concern about saving wicket and was overwhelmed by a defensive approach. His risk-taking ability was no more witnessed. By many cricket analyst and critics, Misbah ul Haq is held responsible for the loss against India in ICC Cricket World Cup Semi-Final 2011 at Mohali. His defensive approach in a chasing Semi-Final is always questioned. He was also titled as "Tuk Tuk" for his slow innings in ODIs. Despite being controversial in the subdomain of cricket, he gained more popularity and was announced as the captain of Pakistan International Team by Cricket Board.

The MBA degree holder from the UMT Punjab has lots of achievement in cricket. Misbah holds the record of most ODI runs without scoring a hundred. He scored 15 ODI half-centuries, most in a calendar year, in 2013 and was the highest scorer ahead of Virat Kohli. He is the fastest to score a Test fifty and second fastest to Test hundred followed by Brandon McCallum of New Zealand. Under his captaincy, Pakistan became the first Asian cricket side to beat South Africa in a bilateral series in South Africa. Pakistan won the first bilateral Test series against West  Indies at their home ground. Through his great captaincy, Pakistan became the number one team of Test cricket. His wisdom and decision-making ability helped Pakistan won Asia Cup 2012 at Mirpur. He led Islamabad United to win the first-ever title of HBL PSL 2016. His six 6s of an over in Hong Kong T20 were surprising for many.

Misbah recently passed the level 2 coaching exams and was eligible to be the coach of any domestic or international side. He was appointed as the Training Manager of the First Class cricketers including category A of the central contract. He had a camp session in Lahore for one week. After applying for the head coach he resigned from the camp manager. On 4th September 2019, Misbah ul Haq was declared as next head coach and chief selector of Pakistan cricket board. The trust and expectations of PCB are at the highest level for any individual.

Misbah as an administrator has always been gratitude and polite in personality. It is earlier to predict him as an administration failure based on his cricket career. His influence and impact will be more visible after the WT20 and Asia cup in 2020. Whether he continues in his defensive approach or comes with an aggressive mindset? Is yet to be answered.
